SONGHAI

Songhai is located in modern day central Mali which is in West Africa near the Niger River. 

 Activity #1: We will be visiting the  Great Mosque of Djenné. This is a huge building that is considered as one of the greatest achievements in the Sudano Sahelian architectural style. This building is a mosque and is an important religious building.

Activity #2: Visit the remains of Timbuktu. Timbuktu was an amazing and significant city. It flourished from trade routes which traded gold, ivory, slaves, and salt. During Timbuktu's golden age it was known as a place of high education because of all the Islamic scholars and the colleges. These colleges helped draw more scholars into Timbuktu making the empire even stronger.
