ASANTE

Empire #1

Activity 1: The first empire we will be visiting is the Asante Empire. The Asante Empire is located in West Africa modern day Ghana. The first activity will be visiting the remains of the 10 traditional shrine houses (Abosomfie) of the Ashanti people. Each of which was traditionally regarded as the spiritual home of particular Obosum, a minor deity who could mediate between a mortal being and a supreme god. Most houses were destroyed by the British during raids.

Activity 2: The second activity we will be doing today is visiting the Manhyia Palace Museum. The Manhyia Palace Museum has been open since 1925. In the museum the tourists will be shown videos explaining the Asante history and its diverse and esquisted culture. The museum will be showing a lot of goldwork because that is what they were famous for. They will be showing gold weights, bracelets, and pots for gold dust.
