ETHIOPIA 

Empire #4

The Ethiopian empire spanned the current state in Ethiopia. First established in 1137 known for its breathtaking landscape and reserves of gold this country we will be visiting the Lalibela and the Axum.

Activity #1: The Lalibela is a span of 11 fantastic churches carved out of rock. The legend has it that when King Lalibela returned from exile from Jerusalem this was his version as a second Jerusalem. These 800 year old structures would have been built by more than 40,000 workers. 


Activity 2: The Axum was once the center of a powerful and successful empire and civilization. We will visit St.Mary of Zion Cathedral which is the final resting place of Arc of the Covenant. Which is a gold-covered wooden chest that is said to contain two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments describes in the Book of Exodus. We will also walk by the beautiful obelisks and explore the ruins of the imperial palace of the Queen of Sheba.
