KONGO

Kongo was an African Empire located in West Central Africa. The Kongo empire is located in what is  now modern day  northern Angola, Cabinda, the Republic of the Congo,and  the western portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Kongo empires religion was catholic Christianity and Kongo relied heavily on agriculture such as farming and fishing.Kongo's most valuable trade items were ivory and copper.

Activity #1: The first stop in the Kongo empire will  be the catholic church of Kongo. The Catholic church of Kongo arrived shortly after the first Portuguese came over in 1482. The Portuguese explorers met with the king and eight years the king was baptized. This led to the Christianize of Kongo along with the adoption of the catholic faith Kongo also adopted other European ideals such as titles like Duke, Count, and King. We will Tour The Cathedral of Kisantu which is a catholic church located in the Democratic Republic of Congo.    

Activity #2: The second stop we will visit Lake Kivu This is an Important river located in Africa. Fishing was important to the Kongo empire as an important part of their agriculture. We will tour this river by boat and teach you the way of the people who fished in these waters long ago.
